- Summary:500 feet beneath the ocean's surface, the U.S. ballistic missile submarine Colorado receives their orders. Over a radio channel, designed only to be used if their homeland has been wiped out, they're told to fire nuclear weapons at Pakistan. Captain Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher) demands confirmation of the orders only to be unceremoniously relieved of duty by the White House. XO Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman) finds himself suddenly in charge of the submarine and facing the same difficult decision. When he also refuses to fire without confirmation of the orders, the Colorado is targeted, fired upon, and hit. The submarine and its crew find themselves crippled on the ocean floor, declared rogue enemies of their own country. Now, with nowhere left to turn, Chaplin and Kendal take the sub on the run and bring the men and women of the Colorado to an exotic island. Here they will find refuge, romance and a chance at a new life, even as they try to clear their names and get home. [+]more

First, 4 all navel gazers like me?: starting @ 25 minutes in or so there begins (by Chaplin) a
quasi-metaphysical/spiritual mini-arc-by-monologue. Where time & space seem to have eluded him re: an experience he had in the past & he talks about it..it goes on from there 4 only a short time. Meaning, ultimately, no need to ban the episode from anyone's to-watch list. Because then we get grounded once again by the remainder of the episode..But I guess this also serves as a warning for anyone who hates that kind of thing and can't get past it, lol!..also, I do think, if whatever-his-name-is, if he really launched nukes at Chaplin's hometown, just to get back at 1 person (namely again, Chaplin) that the USofA would/does have plenty of defense tech to counter that move. But I'm willing - just for this last episode - to suspend disbelief there...& yes, I posted here before in this thread, twice now, in total. Which means I do get that I'm over the top upset with my response to "Last Resort" being cancelled. But all I can now say is FTDS!: I don't care what anyone thinks, because I have $hit to say, lol!: I appreciate very much that the producers had - in this case - enough notice of cancellation to at least aim to give its fans some form of closure. They must be aware of how frustrated tv show fans are - across the tv cable/network world - about the other crazy a$s cancellations of incredibly good shows...TPTB continue 2 ignore that we're living in an INTERNET generation & age & that many, if not most of us prefer to watch serial entertainment (& often movies) at our own leisure/on-demand. Me? I still love the movie theater experience so I still - sometimes - go to film theaters. But good 'tv' shows offered to us in the same, continued old, lame a$s way? A different story. Why? Because they too often get cancelled - not because they're not worthy - but because advertisers are not making money via old-school style models. Networks really need to WAKE UP (WTFrakU!)!!..Seriously, why would or should any of us pay for any service that does NOT honor reality?? Ones that continue to cancel shows the world-wide public loves (some after only 2 to 3 episodes??..REALLY??)..& which ignore the relatively new but not actually new internet culture & how it works??..especially when studies show these industries continue to make more money/profit every year?? Be clear, we're not talking about studies covertly sponsored by the tv & movie industries themselves - but rather the truly independent studies....Please, we're almost begging, pkease give us up 2 date/reality matching options!!..& whether TPTB like it or not the internet is world wide which means so called tv audiences, paying or not, local or not, are also world wide..in other words?: Balance..the redistribution of wealth in every direction & in its various forms - whether the money mongers understand the most true & honest math of it or not....The 'middle men' might not have to get dropped..(which is their profit losing fear..& after Cyprus & the banking theft/scam targeting, too widely, everyday citizens, who can blame them?).. we or at least some of us feel the tv show investors , at least a little? right? But come on!! hard to completely feel the notoriously greedy ones who don't give a rat's a$s about money truth or love (love, right, that will confuse many of them)...& re: these same middle men: 2 realize a way 2 remain relevant in this day & age? they can do it, they could do it. Because if they were ready to consider these ideas, instead of greed continuing on, the fresh ideas work. So we say to them: PLEASE be willing to & take fresh, non-greedy action 2 share the wealth with the ones who help them pay their mortgages (actors & actresses - which is not an evil word - why demonize the feminine? [westerners! god help us!]..also armchair tv show patrons, etc., who help them pay 4 their tv exec lives) ..Please, someone or Someone, help TPTB get with 'the program." There are plenty of individual tv series episodes I & many friend would pay for access 2, for a fair cost, were we given the opportunity to do so. But sadly, this has not been an option so far. Not really, not across the board. Not truly & not fully & certainly not consistently. Were it so then those who could not afford it, most would be invited & welcome to watch tv with friends and/or family or a community that *can* afford it..I & my family & many friends, we have talked about this a lot..& hopefully, maybe some day someone with the relevant amount of influence who can make changes happen will hear us. -
I had been saving these episodes as I was going to burn through the whole series back to back over a few days which is how I watch Lost season 1 :). Then after hearing it was being cancelled I wasn't so sure if I would watch it or give it a miss...

Well this weekend i had some free time and watched the first 10episodes and so far I have to admit I'm glad I did, yes it's slow at times and some parts are unrealistic but I was reeled in and gripped and couldn't wait to see the next episode.
As many have stated the plot never had enough legs to be a long drawn out show, but I'm going into the last 3 episodes hoping they wrap up as much as possible which is the least Last Resort deserves -
A good ending to a great show. 10/10 for the one season

@Braderli The needle in his chest in episode 6 when marcus woke up from being drugged was an auto injector from a MARK 1 Kit, the kit with all the military anti nerve agents, so while military viewers probably didn't bat an eye at the sight of the needle, they could have done a better job explaining it to those who wouldn't recognize it.

Well, one more episode to go unfortunately. Andre Brouer is such a great talent but can't seem to catch a break. This and Men of a certain age and a few more of other shows I can't recall the names of have been short lived. We do what we can but when the producers, writers, sponsors all get their knickers in a bunch, we suffer. I wish Andre well and I know we will see him soon. You can't keep a good man down. Nuff said...

So sad that this has been cancelled it was my favorite new show...loved the premise and the characters. I have the worst luck with new shows last year it was Awake and Alcatraz that I really got in to and they didn't make it either :(

Thanks, Willinate!, for the info..Just realized I saw a brief interview somewhere online that was about this series (an interview with Andre B.) & so I can appreciate your point. Because though always trying not to get distracted by inaccurate details when watching 'tv' - sometimes I feel the same as you did when the genre of my particular career is poorly represented. I don't watch movies and television for a pure 100% reality check - because, omg, what would be the point of that??- But some details are quite important!, lol!, so, I hear ya! :O)

I haven't finished watching this first episode yet, but for you non "Bubble-Heads" out there, there are a few things that just are not true in the Submarine world on this show. First they are not going to surface right underneath a small boat straight up like that, and second, well I am not allowed to tell you what they can't do. But they would get better reception if the connected a can and a string to the sub to talk. And yes I served onboard a Fast Attack for 4yrs. come on tv networks get it right!...just saying!
