jb123/ Rutlage bought several over seas cars including VW's and a Toyota truck and that's just to start with. Adam likes American cars so that's what he chooses to drive, Ill give you that but Rutlage is always getting Foreign cars and trucks. Really though as you mention there is a case where they should take a page out of eachothers books but I like them both the way they are. It gives you a better verity between what cars you can see by the version of the show you watch so instead of getting bored you can just kind of flip back and forth between the tow. I think allot of it stands though is it comes down to more what kind of cars and what kind of show would be more interesting to the setting based on what country it's aired in. What might do well in the UK might not necessarily do as well here in the states and Vice Vera. UK really does have more of a tendency to lean to learning where in the states most people here get bored of that and want more competition. Then you get people like me who get bored of to much of either so I just watch both versions. I'm with you though they are both good shows and really I like the differences between the tow personally. I just watched about 6 of the UK's and now I'm ready for a change so I came to US just now.

mikeb613 / Really? Top gear UK started car bumping? Last I knew people where doing that long before there ever was a show called Top Gear in any country. You know how hard it is to find a 1967 Chevelle with out a crunched front and rear bumper around here? That's why. And lets see, UK has about what? 6 years longer air time then US so of course it was done on there first, don't mean the show started it all in any country. Just to say that is stupid, and talking about personalities, I love TG UK but that tall dark hair guy is totally insulting to the cast, the guests and the audience, though personally I think he's funny as hell cause I can tell a joke when I see one, obviously that's some thing you haven't been able to accomplish. So who are you to say the US crew don't belong on TV? What did Adam fart? Biggest thing is ALL 4 versions of Top Gear are the same exact production so wtf do you mean anyone is copying anyone else? Everything you said is crap, it's thoughtless senseless crap, my guess is you're one of those Canadians just looking to bag on America and moan about everything we do and your opinion pretty much speaks for it's self. There's 4 versions of the show, US, UK, Australia and I think Korea. All produced by the same producers and all of the challenges are written and they just follow the directions and the roads to get the job done. If that's to much to understand then you should never be back here to read this sense you have such an obvious hatred of the show anyway. K good night ;)

They tend to have better cars in the final parts of US and it has allot more humor in it. However UK is also good in it's versatility in using cars that no body really cares about and showing just how purposeful they really are when you would never really look at them twice if you saw one going down the road.

That being said they are both great shows and fun to see how they relentlessly beat the hell out of all the cars they touch and if people like one over the other then so be it. TG US is just more of a challenge of car and driver where UK really only challenges the car. US they go head to head in car Vs. car of older models and newer models where UK basically is all about the car they are showcasing and no real head to head car against car like US does.
THAT being said I do notice now though on US they don't meet at the garage anymore with all the people standing there as they discus their journey and I don't think they did Big star Little car all last season. I Miss that, and after all the years I've watched both versions it is KILLING ME not to know who Stig really is LOL
Either way they are both great shows and if people want to complain about US then just don't watch it. Neither are really any better but they are both allot different in character and to the guy on here said its just a rip off of UK, how is that when it's the same exact show just based in the US? Same people producing the show so that can hardly be called a rip off.
Davey1000 / LOL Who cares, it's just for fun, it's not like it's a real contest and anyway even if it was then that would be the breaks. If he was really worried about winning I'm sure he would have done some thing to lose a few pounds. -
OK, so if you're a tough gear head/car lover, you going to tend to like Top Gear UK better, but if you're looking for entertainment and just a laugh, Top Gear USA is a bit better. UK has much more useful knowledge but that also comes at the price of boring scenes. USA is just fun to watch, but don't come looking for advice or a way to compare options in the market.

Both have their appeal. Both great shows. -
this top gear us is really growing on me, im starting to prefer to our uk top gear, yea i agree you know whats coming before it even happens and that spoils it alot but still a top notch program none of the less.

I agree with mikeb613 it does have very similar challenges as the UK version, especially the limo episode, but other than that I really enjoy watching it. The main issue I have with it is that they always seem to buy american cars in the challenges they are set, with the exception of Tanner, and there are very few tests of modern supercars or even merely faster versions of everyday cars when compared with UK Top Gear. I think both the UK and US shows could learn from each other and improve, with the US version needing more current road tests and the UK version needing better cheap car challenges like they used to have 5 or so years ago because recently this has been an area where they have really fallen down and the show has become horribly scripted and predictable albeit funny at times.

People say not to compare it to U.K top gear, however it is nearly impossible not to.... I find they copy the same gimmics, for example they always bump into each others cars (uk version did it first), and they only do challenges they never do a proper car review ( some in the first season). My biggest problem with the show is the host's personality, they do not belong on tv, no charizma, no charm, they are just awkward. I would only keep tanner and only because he is an amazing driver and out of the 3 of them he is the best on camera. I absolutly hate in the openning credits how they put the driver, the expert and the WRECKER (just stupid). I am saying all this but I have watched every episode because it is better than no top gear at all, It is not a bad show if you ignor all the bad, however I am suprised they made it to a 3rd season

I recently watched the US version of Top Gear. On the "Big Star Small Car" test Buzz Aldrin did not do so well as a bloke who looked to be about half his weight. Would it not be fairer to have handicapping whereby weights are added to the car? After all the car with a 250 pound driver will not be as fast as a car with a nine stone driver. If the vehicle was a semi-trailer tractor unit the drivers weight would not have much effect but in a small car it will.
